This painting, “Revolucion Medicines” is a commission for a biotech company located in Redwood City, CA.  The company CEO approached me to create a painting which would capture the unique people and mission of this company. The backstory is that I’m a recent pancreatic cancer survivor and this company is creating new pathways to “outsmart” my specific type of cancer. It was daunting to try and depict the deep gratitude I feel for these employees who have dedicated their working lives to helping people like me. As I was working on this painting scientific research was coming under assault. I saw the narrative of this painting bigger than the story of one biotech company. It was time to put front and center the complexity, interdependence, perseverance and expertise needed to make medical gains possible. It was time to celebrate those who are saving lives.
