Migration North Artist Statement
These are dire times for our Southern neighbors who seek to escape gangs, violence or extreme poverty. Vilified for seeking a better life they continue to trek North, often in large migrant caravans which offer a bit more safety, especially for women and children. Having become a political punching bag in today’s American political landscape they proceed regardless of the consequences as have generations before them.
These brightly painted acrylic paintings narrate the extreme measures the United States government has taken to dehumanize, detain and control Central Americans coming to the United States. Babies have been literally ripped from their Mother’s breast, and children of all ages have been placed in cages, then lost in a sea of red tape as they are shipped to homes, shelters and detention centers around the County. America kidnapped these children.
